New project for 2013

This post is an old draft I just happened to stumble across today in my list of draft posts, it never made it to posting for some reason or another.  So maybe instead of doing this in 2011 like I obviously intended, it might happen in 2013.  I had totally forgotten about the whole idea of sewing photographs onto the fabric and making a canvas.  Great gift idea for your childs bedroom or maybe even the lounge. Wish I had rediscovered this a month or two ago I would have done them for the kids for Christmas gifts.  So, please read on .......

I saw this project today posted on The Quick Unpick blog - it's a great idea that I have not seen before. I will be definitely trying it out in 2011. You print out your photos, adding text to them if you like first, then sew them onto your favourite fabric and make a canvas. Check out The Spanglers work here , you could do so much with this. I have never thought of sewing on photos. I have done a bit with sewing paper onto cardboard and it is loads of fun. I did some quick handmade gift tags for Christmas using Belle and Boo images (so gorgeous you can find them here). Also I did a christmas tree using paper doilies and also a bird using scrapbooking paper and a button for an eye and stitch detail for the legs and wings etc (all paper sewn to cardboard (very light gsm).   Happy stitching.  I will post pics of my new project when I get around to it, hopefully not in another two years.

  I enjoy adding special effects to them but just recently I found something even better.

 

 

Adding text to photos.  It's wonderful.  I have played around a bit here but haven't quite got it right yet.  But I am almost there.  

 

You need a photo with a fairly plain background.  If possible also one where the subject is not too big  or does not dominate the photo - you need a lot of background preferable off to the left of the photo.

 

 

You can crop a photo to suit.  You can also type straight over the subject in the photo - as long as the Font Colour shows up ok.  The photo of Oliver holding his red cricket set is quite well balanced - enough room for the text and the background is not too busy.  And I was able to get him off centre. 

 

 

I think this one works well with the white text on the green grass. 

 

Here the font is too pale and too small.  Probably black text would be better here.

These would work well printed as a canvas from someone like Snapfish or Big W or Harvey Norman etc.  There are so many places to do these, and they would make a great wall hanging - think Christmas gift for grandparent or even your child for their bedroom wall.  So happy texting......

Post your eva mei & me pics on my blog

I would love to see some photos of your kids wearing my clothes. It would give me a real buzz. For those of you who have purchased an eva mei & me garment - I would love you to email me a picture of your little princess or prince (yes I have made one or two boys things) wearing it. You do not need to show their face if you prefer not to, it could be covered with a big hat, an umbrella, they can be facing away from the camera, or maybe a silk fan or a mask would do the job. All you have to do is email your picture to karynkong01@optusnet.com.au (after my name it is a ZERO and a ONE, not the letter O) - and I will post them as they come in. If it's one of my owls or a cushion you could take a picture of where it now lives, I would love to see them too. I have just received my first photo today from a follower - and this is what gave me the idea. She had bought two owls as a custom order and they are now living on her bed. It was so thoughtful of her to send this photo and it made my day. I would love to see as many pics as possible so come on, get out the cameras and email me.
